Analytics

Analytics play a key role in all of hte’s lab-scale R&D workflows. Our analytical experts develop the right solution for every problem, making it possible to generate reliable and highly accurate data on gases, solids, and liquids. Our applications and methods allow a large volume of data to be recorded in the shortest possible time, which in turn accelerates research processes.

Process large volumes of data quickly in the lab

Research processes in the lab generate a large amount of data. Processing and evaluating this data represents an immense challenge. At hte, we support researchers worldwide in obtaining better results for their research questions more quickly: Our software solutions for lab-scale R&D workflows enable automatic execution of experiments, as well as collection of the data generated in the process. They also facilitate integration, evaluation, and visualization of data from various sources in a single system. The focus here is on securing high data quality and time savings in day-to-day work.

Benefit from our expertise

Precise analyses, efficient data management, and high-quality evaluation are essential for anyone looking to gain knowledge of and insights into the composition of reactants, products, and catalysts in research projects. As the world’s leading provider of lab-scale R&D workflows, hte has extensive experience with a wide range of both established and new analytical methods.

Our laboratory systems are equipped with powerful process analytics and software for carrying out tests, as well as evaluating and managing data. In addition to this, we perform around 100,000 analyses of solids and liquids per year – impressing not only with high quality and reproducibility, but also speed. We process most samples – whether liquid or solid – in our analytical laboratory within 24 hours. For time-critical projects, such as at the start of screening projects, we are even able to complete analyses on the same day, for example to quickly adjust the process conditions at our research facilities.

Our analytics services for your research and development operations

Efficient analytics are essential for the success of any project. We distinguish between the analysis of reactants and products in our laboratory facilities (online analytics) and the characterization of catalysts offline in the laboratory for physical analytics (offline analytics). At the start of each project, we hold detailed discussions with our customers to clarify the specific issues and objectives, as well as to determine which analyses need to be carried out and in what scope.

Online analytics

Each hte laboratory system is equipped with a customized, fully automated process analytics system that is specifically tailored to the requirements of the respective project. When we refer to online analytics, we mean the analysis of reactants and products in the system. Besides process gas analyzers based on photometric or spectroscopic measuring principles, gas chromatographs are primarily used. Process analytics enable changes in the gas phase composition to be observed within minutes, which in turn allows the progress of the process to be monitored.

Performance scope: Online analytics are customized for your specific process. We employ a combination of different measuring principles and methods to ensure that we can meet all customer requirements as effectively as possible.

Offline analytics for liquids

Among others, we employ the following methods when analyzing liquid samples:

  • Total sulfur and total nitrogen analysis
  • Simulated distillation (SIMDIST)
  • Determination of physical properties such as density, refractive index, viscosity, color number, photometry
  • Total nitrogen and total oxygen analysis
  • Determination of the cloud point, pour point, freezing point, and carbon residue
  • Titrations such as bromine number, acid number, water content as per the Karl Fischer method
  • Gas chromatography using flame ionization detectors, as well as mass-selective and element-selective detectors
  • Two-dimensional gas chromatography
  • HPLC (high-performance liquid chromatography)

Offline analytics for solids

Among others, we employ the following methods when analyzing solid samples:

  • Powder diffractometry
  • X-ray fluorescence spectrometry
  • FT-IR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy)
  • Nitrogen physisorption (surface and pore analysis)
  • Simultaneous thermal analysis such as DSC (differential scanning calorimetry) and TG (thermogravimetry)
  • Determination of the total inorganic carbon and sulfur content
  • Particle size distribution

Key areas of analytic expertise

We operate modern laboratories for material characterization, as well as analysis of gas and liquid samples. The majority of our analyses are carried out in accordance with the recognized ASTM, EN, or DIN standards. Preventive maintenance of the analytic equipment, together with our quality assurance concept, guarantees high-quality data that are also highly reproducible. This is confirmed by regular and successful participation in round-robin tests.

Other key areas of expertise include:

  • Extensive experience with a very wide range of samples
  • High flexibility thanks to a broad spectrum of analytical equipment
  • Fast and customized development of analysis methods based on customer requirements
  • High complexity and accuracy of the analyses performed
  • Minimized method runtimes to achieve high data rates
  • Fully automated and digitalized workflows, as well as the expertise to work successfully in a digitalized environment
  • Continuous further training for our qualified personnel
