The road to a more sustainable and decarbonized energy future represents one of the greatest challenges of our time. Electrocatalysis is an energy-efficient process that is, for example, used to produce green hydrogen <\/strong>as a clean and sustainable energy source or in the reduction of CO2<\/sub> to create valuable products based on renewable energies. Fuel cells can be used to generate electricity<\/strong> from green energy storage materials (such as hydrogen). Redox flow batteries<\/strong> are used to store fluctuating renewable electricity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, system manufacturers, suppliers, and end users are facing numerous challenges here: The technologies often display varying degrees of readiness for the market, the costs are still too high, and a great deal of development work is required to make innovations marketable. As if this were not already problematic enough, a challenging regulatory environment also makes it more difficult to implement new solutions. In addition, there is currently a great need for start-up funding to secure an ability to compete with established technologies based on fossil raw materials. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Research as a key factor for the future  <\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Extensive research and development activities are taking place in academia and industry with a view to meeting these challenges. The associated development goals include areas such as more efficient electrocatalysts, cell components, and electrocatalyst materials with greater long-term stability, as well as finding substitutes for materials previously used, such as perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). At hte, we bring 25 years of experience with heterogeneous catalysis to your research projects in the field of electrolysis and fuel cells \u2013 whether in laboratory systems construction, materials research, or process development. We use our technology platform in laboratory systems construction for electrolysis and fuel cell applications, synthesizing electrocatalysts, as well as testing cells and stacks on a laboratory scale. Following a detailed examination of the bids submitted, hte’s solution turned out to be the right choice for us. In particular, the combination of an adaptable electrochemical cell, seamless software integration, and the ability to quantify dissolved gaseous products really highlighted hte’s technical expertise. With these innovative characteristics, we were able to fully realize our vision of a parallel system for electrochemical CO2<\/sub><\/em> conversion. At the same time, I\u2019m optimistic about the use of the parallel system, which will sit at the heart of our national research network for sustainable electrocatalysis.
